This Privacy Policy explains how Roommates ("we", "our", "the App") collects, uses, stores, and protects your personal information. By using the App, you consent to the practices described in this policy.

- Account Information: Email address, display name, optional profile photo
- Household Data: Chore titles, descriptions, due dates, assigned members
- Expense Data: Expense descriptions, amounts, splits, receipt photos
1.2 Automatically Collected Information
- Device Information: Device type, operating system, app version
- Usage Data: Features used, screens viewed, actions taken (anonymized)
- Analytics: Crash reports, performance metrics, error logs
- We do NOT access your contacts, microphone, calendar, or location
- We do NOT track you across other apps or websites
- We do NOT sell your data to third parties
2. How We Use Your Information
2.1 Core Functionality
- Authentication: Verify your identity and manage your account
- Household Coordination: Share chores and expenses with household members
- Notifications: Send reminders for chores and expense updates
- Data Sync: Synchronize data across your devices

3. Data Sharing and Storage
3.1 With Your Household Members
When you join a household, ALL household members can see:
- Your name and profile photo
- Chores assigned to you and completion status
- Expenses you create or are included in
- Your points score
3.2 With Third-Party Services
- Firebase (Google): Backend database, authentication, analytics, crash reporting. Firebase Privacy Policy
- Data is stored in Google Cloud servers (US region)
3.3 With No One Else
- We do NOT share your data with advertisers
- We do NOT sell your data to data brokers
4. Data Security
4.1 Security Measures
- Encryption: Data encrypted in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest
- Access Control: Only household members can access your household data
- Authentication: Secure Firebase Authentication
4.2 Data Retention
- Active Accounts: Data retained as long as your account is active
- Deleted Accounts: Data deleted within 30 days of account deletion
5. Your Privacy Rights
5.1 Access Your Data
View all your data within the App (Settings). Request a copy by contacting support.
5.2 Delete Your Data
- Leave Household: Remove yourself from a household in Settings
- Delete Account: Permanently delete your account and all data in Settings
5.3 GDPR Rights (EU Users)
If you are in the European Union, you have rights to access, rectify, erase, and port your data, and to object to processing.
5.4 CCPA Rights (California Users)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what data we collect, delete your data, and opt-out of data sales (we don't sell data).
6. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If we discover a child under 13 has created an account, we will delete it.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted in the App and on our website. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
